My research will focus on methods for improving detection of PVY strains. Can we trigger easy-to-recognize leaf symptoms using variable wavelength light in small plants sprouted from mini-tubers? This system may prove superior to conventional post harvest test procedures for seed potatoes. It would be faster, require less space, and could prove more accurate. Additionally, my research on mini-tubers may lead to a novel way to produce certified potato seed. My program will also conduct field trials of potato germplasm for resistance to PVY.
